14 people – 40 min preparation / 20 min cooking.

Here’s how to make it

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, the yeast, brown sugar and salt. Add the milk, eggs and butter. Mix until the flour is fully incorporated. If the dough seems sticky, add a little more flour.
  2. Cover the bowl and leave outside the refrigerator for 10 min.
  3. Meanwhile, make the filling. In a bowl, combine 1 cup brown sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Preheat the oven to 375° degrees. Line a baking sheet with baking paper.
  4. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle of about 16×14 cm, adding flour if necessary. Spread the dough with 5 tablespoons of butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Fold the dough in half directly over the cinnamon, pressing to make sure it sticks. Cut into 12-14 strips. Twist each strip into a loose knot; they don’t have to be perfect. Place on the baking sheet.
  5. In a bowl, mix 1 tablespoon melted butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Sprinkle lumps of the brown sugar over the buttons. Bake for 20 min, until golden brown.
  6. Meanwhile, make the icing. Melt the butter and maple syrup together in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and instant coffee. Sprinkle over the buttons.
