Developments in the coffee world

Developments in the coffee world

You’ve probably noticed that a lot is happening in the world of coffee. Especially at our work, many changes have taken place. There are increasingly better coffee facilities in the office, we almost always have free coffee and the quality has improved tremendously in recent years. But that’s not all, more is going to happen in the field of coffee in the coming years. What these will be, we tell you in this blog.

Coffee Consumption

Research by the International Coffee Organization (ICO) found that Finland is the country where the most coffee is consumed, 12 kg per person per year! In Finland, there is no special time for coffee; you drink coffee anywhere, anytime. The coffee beans used mainly in Finland are lightly roasted, which means they are less strong in flavor, which ensures that a lot of coffee is drunk.

Now you may be thinking, how much coffee is drunk worldwide? Well that’s about 1.6 billion cups of coffee a day. In the Nordic countries, coffee consumption per person is the highest of any other country.

Your delicious cup of coffee made by a robot, that’s the future. A number of branches of the new concept, Café X, have opened in San Francisco. In this coffee shop, you order your coffee via an app and the robots make your delicious cappuccino, latte macchiato or your espresso. One advantage to the robots are that they prepare your coffee within 1 minute, but of course there is also a disadvantage. Not everyone can handle ordering through an app, so a solution still needs to be found for this.

No more walking to the coffee maker? There’s a solution to that too, the coffee drone! This drone brings your coffee or other drinks to your desk. The drone also has the function of signaling whether someone needs coffee. Around the world there are only a few of these coffee drones yet, who knows, maybe in a while your cup of coffee will also be brought to you by a coffee drone.

Do you think the environment is so important too? We as consumers these days want to eat and drink more and more fair products, this so that we can do our part for a better environment. An important development within sustainability is: circularity, aka taking into account food waste and reusing materials. The biggest goal is for all companies to eventually do zero waste and 100% sustainable business.

At more and more coffee shops you see cardboard cups that you can return, these are processed into new paper products. Recycling is very important to many businesses, also it can be seen that reusable cups are increasingly on sale and consumers are actually using them.

Together we are helping to create a better environment!

Coffee Making

Where we used to often use coffee pods, we now roast our own beans. Everyone is experimenting on how to make the best coffee. Because let’s face it, what could be better than a cup of coffee with your own roasted fresh coffee beans?

Your own selfie on your cappuccino? It can be done these days with the “latte art” printer. Instead of ink, coffee extract is used; the print on the foam is entirely up to you. In America this is a development that has been going on for some time, but this trend is slowly shifting to Europe as well, there are more and more coffee shops using the “latte art” printer. So who knows, you may soon have your own selfie on your coffee.
